Welcome to Our Lady of Guadalupe

Fr. Edward Kilianski, SCJ - Pastor Ext. 114

I was born on November 2, 1954 (the Feast of All Souls) in Buffalo, New York. I am the fourth of the six sons of Edward and Margaret Kilianski. There is a twenty-year span from the oldest to the youngest. My brothers and I all attended St. Teresa's Catholic Grammar School where I was an altar boy, a member of the St. Dominic Savio Boys and a Boy Scout. When I was seven years old, I knew I was going to be a priest. Thus, after graduating from eighth grade I went off to Immaculate Heart of Mary High School Seminary in Lenox, Massachusetts. This was a seminary of the Priests of the Sacred Heart. With Affection,

After graduating from the High School Seminary I went on to the college formation program with the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Chicago, Illinois. There I attended Northeastern Illinois University, where I received my degree in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy in 1977.

After two years at the University, I entered the Novitiate in Victorville, California in 1974 and professed my vows of poverty, chastity and obedience on June 25, 1975 at Sacred Heart Monastery in Hales Corners, Wisconsin.

After college, I returned to IHM Seminary in Lenox to teach high school for two years from 1977-1979. In addition to teaching I also coached basketball and soccer and was assistant Dean of Students.

Following those two years, I returned to Chicago to attend the Catholic Theological Union, a School of Theology for Religious Communities. There I received my Master of Divinity Degree in 1982. I was ordained to the Diaconate and nine months later was ordained to the Priesthood at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church in Franklin, Wisconsin on January 29, 1983.

My first ministry/service as a priest was at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary where I was ordained. Having been a youth minister during my seminary years I worked closely with the youth of the parish.

In the summer of 1983, I was asked to serve the Priests of the Sacred Heart as a Vocation Director. In those days, a vocation director was like a recruiter. I drove the entire United States meeting and interviewing young men who were interested in the priesthood or religious life. I did this for seven and a half years, becoming the director in 1985. Following vocation work, I had many other different ministries until 1996, when I moved to the little town of Occidental in Northern California. There I edited a newsletter and was parochial vicar at St. Philip of Jesus in Occidental and St. Teresa of Avila in Bodega. It was in Bodega, in 2000, that I first heard the Lord's call to Hispanic Ministry and began my yearly trips to Oaxaca, MX to study Spanish.

Finally, after eight years in California, in 2004, I arrived in Houston as Parochial Vicar of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. SEAS is the largest Parish in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston with over 8,000 families. After my six month sabbatical in Oaxaca to study more Spanish, I arrived here at Our Lady of Guadalupe, as pastor, on March 2, 2008.

Fr. Joseph Dinh, SCJ—In Residence

Fr. Joseph Dinh was born in Saigon, Vietnam, but has lived in the United States since 1987. He first began as a student with the Priests of the Sacred Heart in 1992. He did his undergraduate studies at Incarnate Word University in San Antonio and earned his master’s of divinity degree from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

In December of 2001, he was ordained to the diaconate by Bishop Perry. Soon after his ordination, he began ministry here at Our Lady of Guadalupe parish.

A Mass of Thanksgiving was held at Our Lady of the Snows in Chicago, a parish where Fr. Joseph ministered at during his years at CTU, on July 14, 2002. Another Mass of Thanksgiving was held in August at our Lady of Guadalupe. The Mass incorporated Vietnamese, Spanish and English, reflecting Fr. Joseph’s background and the culture of the people to whom he ministers.
