Father Duy Nguyen, SCJ

PASTOR

Hello, my name is Duy Nguyen and I was born on February 17, 1978 in Chicago to Vietnamese parents. Including myself, there are 8 brothers and sisters in my family and I am the youngest of them. I never dreamt of being a priest growing up. The idea didn’t register in my mind since my parents never encouraged me to pursue this path. It was not until the age of 23, after I had graduated from college from the University of Illinois in Chicago and during the time where I was working that I felt an intense longing to pursue something more meaningful for my life. Eventually the idea of serving God as a priest started to click with me.

At age 25 I entered the SCJ community, whom I met in Toronto, Canada during World Youth Day.     I made my first profession on August 5, 2006 and perpetual profession on January 30, 2010. During my time in formation I ministered on the Lower Brule and Fort Thompson reservations in South Dakota for about a year. When I returned I continued my theological studies received my MDIV degree from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. I was ordained a deacon on October 10, 2010 and immediately began my ministry in northern Mississippi working in 4 parishes. Eventually a 5th parish was added to this cluster of parishes.

On June 11, 2011 I was ordained a priest and I have continued my ministry in Mississippi until I was called to Our Lady of Guadalupe for a new part of my journey.

Here I am in Houston, and I look forward to a graced-filled experience with all of you.

Conozcamos Padre Duy Nguyen, SCJ

Hola, me llamo Duy Nguyen.
